Texas protects rain barrels and rainwater-harvesting systems, subject to specified property, street-location, appearance, and visible-equipment rules. A narrow statutory exception also excludes certain large developments. Use the actual site and the association’s cited exception rather than a blanket yes or no.
Texas limits HOA solar prohibitions, but the result depends on the system’s location, roof design, warranties, prior approval, and any qualifying development-period restriction. Check the enumerated exceptions before accepting a ban or installing equipment.
Texas Property Code § 202.007 protects drought-resistant landscaping and water-conserving natural turf from HOA prohibitions. An HOA may require a landscape plan and regulate specified design details, but it cannot unreasonably deny a covered proposal. A plant’s being native is not enough by itself: the design must meet the statutory category. Local water, drainage, and safety requirements still apply.
